Transitions in leadership are always challenging. However, as shown in 2 Kings 2, when a godly leader moves on, the work of God carries on.
Elijah was carried away to heaven by a whirlwind in a chariot of fire. Now that’s a dramatic exit! But the prophet left something behind — his mantle. This cloak was the sign of his authority to speak for God. Elisha had to pick it up and carry on the work. It was a big responsibility and a high calling. Elisha tore his clothes in grief after Elijah was taken, then picked up the cloak and performed a miracle. The baton of leadership was effectively passed on.
The work of God always carries on.
