This coming Sunday we will be continuing our journey through the gospel of Matthew by looking at Matthew 9:14-17.
John the Baptist’s disciples came to Jesus with a question — “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” As He often did, Jesus answered their question with a question of His own — “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them?”
John’s disciples missed the point. They focused on the traditions and missed the significance of the one who stood before them. They lectured Jesus when they should have been listening to Him. They tried to get Him to conform to their ways rather than seeking to conform to Him.
Jesus came to introduce something new, not to patch up something old. We can either fight change, or embrace it. And really, that’s what salvation is all about. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5: 17)
See you Sunday!
